DISCIPLINE
Foul language is forbidden.
Montana School Law states that student will:
- Comply with
the policies of the Trustees and rules and
regulations of the school which he attends.
- Pursue the required
course of study.
- Submit to the authority of the teachers.
Montana
School Law states that "Any teacher in a district
not employing a district superintendent or a principal of
the school where the teacher is assigned shall have authority
to suspend a pupil for good cause." Any pupil who continually
disobeys the provisions of these regulations or shows open
defiance of the authorities, shall be liable for punishment,
suspension, or expulsion under the provisions of Montana
School Law. Whenever a teacher suspends a pupil, he/she shall
notify the Trustees immediately of such action, and the Trustees
shall meet as soon as practical to consider the suspension
action of the teacher.
Expulsion shall be a disciplinary action available only
to the Trustees.
THREE-STEP DISCIPLINE PROGRAM
A 3-step per month warning
system for inappropriate malicious
behaviors
is used at Morin School. Malicious behaviors are those
intended
to cause injury or damage to property. Teachers will
handle
ordinary (not malicious) discipline problems themselves.
For behaviors that may not be clearly malicious to students,
the
teacher will give a verbal warning meant to instruct the
student
that such behaviors are not acceptable at school.
When written
warning is necessary, the offense will be specifically
and clearly
described for the parents and for the Board. After
the second
warning, the student will miss recess for three
days; the teacher
can choose either walking the perimeter
of the playground,
spending the recess in the building, or
sitting alone near the school
building. After the third warning
in a month, the student will be
suspended from school for
one day or more with either in-school suspension
or out of
school suspension at the discretion of the Board and teachers.
The following will still result in immediate suspension
for one day.
Suspension
or expulsion of handicapped students shall be handled as
spelled out in the "Suspension & Expulsion
Guidelines For Handicapped Students" on file in the
school office.
Parents will be notified about any defiant behavior and
academic failure.
