HARASSMENT/BULLYING/RACISM/INTIMIDATION/SEXUAL
HARASSMENT:
DEFINITIONS:
HARASSMENT: Remarks directed toward a student, staff, or faculty
member designed to demean, embarrass, or humiliate.
INTIMIDATION: Other actions intended to be destructive or
threatening to a person.
SEXUAL HARASSMENT: "Sexual harassment"
means unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors,
and other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature.
"Sexual intimidation" means any unreasonable behavior,
verbal or nonverbal, which has the effect of subjecting members
of either sex to humiliation, embarrassment or discomfort
because of their gender. (Montana Human Rights Commission
Regulation)
RACISM: Racism will not be tolerated in any form by Morin
School.
STUDENT RESPONSIBILITY:
A student who believes he or she has been the victim of sexual
harassment is encouraged to write the date, time and place
of the incident(s) as soon as possible after alleged harassment
occurs. Then take this information to the attention of
any of the following:
The harasser and request that the action stop immediately.
(Step One);
The immediate supervisor: teacher. (Step Two if Step One
fails); and
The Lead teacher and Board and file written complaint. (Step
Three if Steps One and Two fail)
The student shall cooperate with the investigating agent
in investigating and verifying reports.
First Offense: Three to five days in-school suspension.
Second Offense: One to three days out-of-school suspension.
Third Offense: Recommend long-term suspension.
*** HAZING - to harass by abusive and humiliating
tricks. Students guilty of hazing will receive a minimum
of three (3) days in-school suspension.
*** FIGHTING
After an investigation by the Lead teacher, punishment will
be given to the guilty party/parties.
Fighting could be considered assault and disorderly conduct.
Severe cases will be reported to law enforcement.
*** HAMPERING STAFF EFFORTS
Students hampering efforts of staff members who are attempting
to stop scuffles and fights by the formation of tightly
knit barriers around the site of the incident, or in any
other manner will be named as an accessory to the incident.
Students will be dealt with under the "insubordination"
section of the handbook as "flagrant defiance of school
personnel".
*** INSUBORDINATION
Verbal abuse of school personnel; flagrant defiance of school
personnel, school rules or any part of this disciplinary
policy; and/or failure to properly identify one's
self to proper school authorities is prohibited.
*** TRUANCY
When a student is absent from school/class without parent
or guardian knowledge or the school's permission.
If a parent fails to notify the school of an acceptable
reason for an absence within two (2) days of the student's
return, the absence will be considered a truancy and dealt
with accordingly.
